What's Mixolydian Scale
Fifth mode of the major scale is called Mixolydian. It sounds similar to a major scale but has a flat 7th note. That small change gives it a laid-back feel that makes it perfect for rock, blues, and funk.
To build the Mixolydian scale, start on the fifth note of any major scale and play the same notes. The key difference from the Ionian scale is that instead of F# (like in G major), G Mixolydian has F natural.
On guitar, Mixolydian is great for jamming over dominant 7th chords, like G7 or A7. It's often used in blues-rock solos and funk grooves. The scale gives you a happy sound with a little bit of edge.
Among other guitar scales, Mixolydian sits somewhere between bright and gritty. It's less "sweet" than a major scale but not as dark as a minor. That balance makes it fun and flexible to use in many styles.
