How to Play G Chord on Guitar
You build G chord from the G major scale. Its major form uses the 1st (G), 3rd (B), and 5th (D) notes. For the minor version, the B becomes Bb.
G major is a common open chord played using all six strings. You place your fingers on the 2nd and 3rd frets of the A, E, and high E strings. It is one of the most popular chords in folk, rock, and country.
G minor is usually played as a barre chord starting on the 3rd fret. It uses the E minor shape but moved up the neck. G minor sounds more emotional and is used in many moody or dramatic songs.
You can also play G major as a barre chord on the 3rd fret using the E-shape. This gives you more control over the tone and works well in electric guitar songs.
