## Frequently asked questions

### What is the difference between demurrage and detention?

Demurrage is charged while a full container stays in the terminal past its free days. Detention is charged while the container is outside the terminal past its free days, until the empty is returned. Fretie runs the two clocks separately.

### Where do the free days come from?

From your carrier terms or the arrival notice: free days for demurrage and detention, or a last free day. Discharge and gate-out dates come from shipment milestones, including those read from carrier emails and pre-alerts.

### What if no D&D tariff is loaded?

Fretie still counts the days and warns before free time ends. Without a tariff it cannot put a money figure on the exposure, and it says so on the shipment.

### Does Fretie email the customer about pickups?

No. It drafts the reminder. Someone on your team checks it and sends it.

### Can it check D&D charges on carrier invoices?
